DC Comics reviews 11/30/21 – Batman Fear State Omega #1, Human Target #2

Wonder Girl #5

Wonder-Girl-5-1

What Wonder Girl lacks in a consistently cohesive script, writer Joëlle Jones more than makes up for with an enthusiasm and excitement that keeps the title so entertaining. Yara makes her decision on joining the gods or striking out on her own while Wonder Girl learns of a third tribe of Amazons called The Esquecida. This is a clever development and also allows Jones (or future Wonder Woman writers) the avenue to explore other regional Amazon tribes.

Without flipping back and forth with Jones’ artwork, Adriana Melo’s art fares better this issue. It’s still not as spell bounding as Jones’ art, but Melo captures the energy of the story whether in action sequences or heavy conversational bits.

The cliffhanger at the end feels overdue and should go a long way in helping to define the Yara Flor run of Wonder Girl.
