DC Comics reviews 12/7/21 – Batman #118, Dark Knights of Steel #2

Batman ’89 #4

Batman '89 #4

It’s fun to read Batman ’89 and get this glimpse of how a third Tim Burton Batman film would have played out. While the mini-series is drawing to a close, writer Sam Hamm is still setting up some fascinating developments that hopefully will lead to a sequel.

Harvey Dent embraces his Two-Face persona while Selina Kyle attacks the GCPD mainframe with a floppy disk hack. And Bruce Wayne gets a unique proposition from Drake, who thinks Batman needs to encourage the change Gotham needs rather than stay in the shadows.

The writing remains engaging as Hamm, the screenwriter for the Burton films, keeps the same tone going in the comics. Joe Quinones’ art truly captures the aesthetics of the film and the likenesses to the actors and actresses is very solid.

This series hasn’t disappointed yet and the only letdown at this point would be for DC not to follow it up with another installment.
