DC Comics reviews 12/7/21 – Batman #118, Dark Knights of Steel #2
Dark Knights of Steel #2
The cold war between the Pierce and El houses ignited with the assassination of Jor-El. This issue, writer Tom Taylor has the House of El get some payback. The only drawback for that casualty is Taylor’s choice, which I won’t spoil, but it was an intriguing character that would have been worth exploring further in this Elseworlds style setting.
Bruce Wayne is also holding back his own secret that Jor-El was his father making him partial Kryptonian. This is interesting as Kal-El is revealed to not be an only child. Wonder Woman debuts as well and Taylor stays true to her upbringing with her relationship, which will likely send some shippers screaming for joy.
Yasmine Putri’s artwork is gorgeous. With this new landscape it’s important to have a distinct art style and Putri has crafted a sweeping fantasy look that works incredibly well. Arif Prianto’s colors are also dynamic.
Taylor has set up an interesting dynamic here with both houses doing some questionable actions. The Els hold powered individuals who’ve never committed any crimes in custody, which is a threat to King Jefferson and his house of powered children.
Another character on the House of El side is introduced and comes off cruel in their actions. Taylor is quickly establishing that there’s going to be plenty of casualties Game of Thrones style before this is all said and done.
