DC Comics reviews 12/14/21 – Wonder Girl #6, Robin and Batman #2

Titans United #4

titans united #4

This issue didn’t feel nearly as eventful as some of the others. Most of the Titans are responding to a series of emergencies with regular people suddenly getting meta powers. Starfire takes on Lady Vic, who’s got an assist from some alien tech while Superboy remains in the clutches of Blackfire as she plans an invasion on Earth.

For the first time in the series, it felt like writer Cavan Scott didn’t have an interesting direction to go until this issue’s cliffhanger. The Titans have largely been working in smaller teams and not particularly effective. A finely-tuned group would pose too many problems for the villains Scott has brought out so their prowess has to be limited.

That’s not the case with Jose Luis’ art, which remains magnificent. Luis keeps delivering on every page with thoughtful posing and a real sense of movement in the action scenes.

Titans United ironically would be a stronger read if the team was together more often. Scott is delaying the big Titans Together moment for the final stretch, but it’d be nice to see them resembling a team sooner.
