Box office roundup

Spider-Man: No Way Home’s reign webs up The 355

Spider-Man: No Way Home continues to dominate and leave box office newcomers wrapped up.

No Way Home shows no sign of slowing down collecting another $33 million. That takes it total domestic gross to $668 million. That was enough to capsize Titanic at $659 million to seize the number six spot in the all-time list. It’s going to take a little bit longer to claim the No. 5 spot, currently held by Avengers: Infinity War ($678 million). Taking down Black Panther at No. 4 with $700 million might be tougher.

The good news for the Tom Holland film? There’s not a lot of major contenders for January. Next up is Scream 4, which will only be available in theaters.

In second place, Sing 2 continues its understudy role with another $11.9 million. It’s now eclipsed $100 million. That’s the first animated film to hit that mark since 2019 with Frozen II.

This week’s latest No Way Home victim was The 355. The spy thriller starring Jessica Chastain, Diane Kruger, Lupita Nyong’o and Penelope Cruz had an awful box office showing with $4.8 million. On the positive side, the film costs a meager $40 million and might make some profit once it shifts to digital rental options in 17 more days.

Coming in at fourth was The King’s Man with $3.3 million taking its tally to $25 million with $49 million globally. American Underdog scored another $2.4 million to hit $18.74 million total.
