DC Comics reviews 1/11/22 – Detective Comics #1048

I Am Batman #5

Writer John Ridley is still trying to get the proper handle on this Batman that’s not Batman title. It keeps feeling like he’d have an easier time and smoother start point writing a new Batwing title.

Ridley crafts strong interaction among the Fox family and Tim is an engaging character yet five issues in it’s still puzzling why he wants to be Batman.

As Batman, Tim faces off with the T.A.L.O.S. troopers with the odds against him. Tim definitely has the makings of a great character figuring out what kind of hero he wants to be, which is making him a fascinating read.

Ridley makes a big move with the Lucius and Tim dynamic that felt overdue.

This was another mix of artists with Christian Duce, Juan Ferreyra and Laura Braga. Typically a trio of artists doesn’t make for the most cohesive visual, but the art was solid throughout.

I Am Batman wraps the Gotham run as Tim now heads to New York, which should introduce a new fresh wide open arena for Ridley to establish his Batman.
