DC Comics reviews 1/18/22 – Nightwing #88, Catwoman #39
Superman Son of Kal-El #7
While the cover might suggest some noble, if not exciting focus on saving the planet’s resources, writer Tom Taylor has a different approach for the first installment of The Rising arc.
Jon has to face a leviathan heading towards Metropolis. Good thing he’s not alone as Jackson Hyde aka Aquaman II is on hand to prevent a tragedy. The same can’t be said for the Gamorra Corps, an elite squad dispatched by Bendix to show up Superman.
Cian Tormey provides the art this issue with a more realistic style than regular artist John Timms. Tormey includes a welcome amount of detail in the background and conveys the inherent threat of a skyscraper sized beast heading to Metropolis.
It didn’t feel like Taylor wasted pages, but this issue flew by. That’s a good sign for the next chapter of this arc and a very positive sign for this series.
