DC Comics reviews 1/18/22 – Nightwing #88, Catwoman #39
Detective Comics #1049
The turnaround of Detective Comics has been astonishing. This Shadows of the Bat arc continues to deliver a captivating and mysterious weekly event. It’s also been writer Mariko Tamaki’s signature, which is even more impressive considering this has been a weekly offering.
The Bat Family’s investigation and infiltration of The Tower is starting to reveal some sinister happenings behind the scenes. But the biggest mystery remains why the patents are suddenly so docile and peaceful?
Ivan Reis’ art remains at an elite level and he gets to have some fun with some riveting action scenes this installment. Brad Anderson’s color work and Danny Miki’s inking take the visuals up another notch for a stirring presentation.

Matthew Rosenberg and artist Fernando Blanco’s backup story is proving to be just as entertaining. This flashback story is providing some vital background information on one of The Tower’s key players. Blanco’s moody artwork is complemented well by Jordie Bellaire’s always exemplary colors.
Detective Comics is back to being a can’t miss title and this arc has been a surprise treat to kick off 2022.
