DC Comics reviews 1/18/22 – Nightwing #88, Catwoman #39
Green Lantern #10
Like Teen Titans Academy, Green Lantern would significantly benefit from an ancillary title. One that allows one of the core subplots to be the focus of that secondary book. Writer Geoffrey Thorne has set up two strong storylines that need more time to develop.
The first half features John Stewarts of the Multiverse making use of their New Godhood. Lonar keeps traversing the Multiverse in hopes of getting John to make the right choice. Or any choice. The other plot has Jo Mullein leading the powered down Lanterns against a massively overpowered corrupt Guardian.
Thorne has a decent handle on the characters and these subplots are both intriguing, but the 50/50 story split continues to stall out the momentum for the sake of a quick cliffhanger.
Artists Chriscross, Marco Santucci and Juan Castro have complementary styles that make the artist shifts smoother. Given the story split, it’s less disruptive to swap out artists.
Green Lantern remains a title that has interesting ideas, but too few are getting properly developed — Teen Lantern was noticeably absent again — that keeps it from reaching its full potential.
