DC Comics reviews 1/25/22 – Action Comics #1039, Robin #10
Superman ’78 #6
The conclusion of Superman ’78 was, as expected, a fantastic finale to a mini-series that did right by the Richard Donner/Christopher Reeve Superman films.
Writer Robert Venditti incorporated all the magic of the movies with Superman’s final showdown with Brainiac. Venditti makes sure to properly convey Brainiac as a threat without making him so formidable he wouldn’t be unstoppable under the late 70s storytelling style. That’s commendable attention to detail for the timeframe.
Wilfredo Torres’ art again is stellar with strong renditions of Reeve, Margot Kidder, Gene Hackman and the rest of the Superman cast. And be on the lookout for four familiar looking adventurers in a cool Easter Egg.
Superman ’78 wraps in such a fitting and satisfying manner it’d be a shame if there’s not a sequel lined up.
