DC Comics reviews 1/25/22 – Action Comics #1039, Robin #10
Task Force Z #4
With the identity of Task Force Z’s leader revealed, Jason Todd has to decide if he’s going to continue working with the group or end the experiment.
Writer Matthew Rosenberg introduces some interesting angles to the series with the arrival of Amanda Waller, Batman and the Suicide Squad?
Rosenberg is keeping things from ever getting too predictable while keeping the various twists credible. Nothing feels out of established continuity and the characters are acting consistent with their usual portrayals.
The main downside this issue was regular artist Eddy Barrows had to share the issue with Keiran McKeown. McKeown’s art is more animated and lacks the gritty detail Barrows packs on every page. McKeown’s style isn’t the best fit for the title especially with the artists alternating every few pages inviting an easy comparison of their styles.
Task Force Z continues to be a rewarding surprise filled with stellar character beats and thrilling action.
