ComiXology reviews 1/26/22 – Clear #4
With Clear, writer Scott Snyder and artist Francis Manapul are crafting a clever Blade Runner homage that keeps getting better each issue.
Sam Dunes has a near fatal encounter with the man he believes killed his ex-girlfriend. But this mysterious stranger knows important details that Sam never shared with anyone else.
Now faced with a new mystery and avenge the death of another close friend, Sam tries to track down the killer before he can harm anyone else Sam cares about.
Snyder is capturing the noir vibe well and the gimmick with the veils helps set the story apart from traditional detective narrating their case stories.

Manapul’s art and color choices make for a mesmerizing and intentionally disorienting experience. Manapul plays up the veil perspective well and the signature look of Sam with his helmet truly makes for a unique hero.
While his own investigation takes him down one path, Sam has to be leery as the police are starting to consider him the main suspect in a prominent murder.
This issue’s cliffhanger is very unexpected and definitely sets the stage for an exciting payoff.
