DC reviews 2/8/22 – Detective Comics #1052, The Joker #12

Batman Catwoman #10

Batman Catwoman #10

Much like how Boba Fett only gets cameo appearances in The Book of Boba Fett, Batman doesn’t have much screen time in Batman Catwoman. At least he’s got 13 other books to be featured in this week. Kidding, it’s only seven.

Writer Tom King remains fixated on Catwoman even as his story goes through three different time periods.

King’s approach on this book has become exhausting and the shifts from the separate eras isn’t making for the most cohesive read.

The dialogue isn’t a highlight with lines like “How thrilling it is to be on the side of the rant! I’m a real super hero now.”

King likes to deconstruct his characters, but three stories to break down Catwoman feels like overkill.

Clay Mann returns as artist after a lengthy break. If nothing else that means the issue looks terrific.

By the end of the issue, King seems to insinuate that Joker is the father of Helena, which seems about right for a book that has been spiraling out of control for so long it’s finally lost it’s way.
