Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow #8

Supergirl-Woman-of-Tomorrow-8-1

It felt like this Supergirl mini-series would have been better served ending a few issues ago.

Writer Tom King had a firm grasp of his story and where he was taking it, but over the last couple of issues it felt like King was stretching it out with little new to add.

For this finale, Ruthye finally had her father’s killer, Krem, at her mercy. King opts to make this showdown a fight until breaking into flowery prose on the value of life. This is a strong contrast to the ending, which negates the back half of the story. It’s the kind of conclusion that raises the question if all that extended setup was necessary.

Bilquis Evely delivers mesmerizing artwork again — the one constant in this series — and colorist Matheus Lopes brings rich, vibrant colors to the mix.

Still, it felt like this ending was overdue and King missed the ideal point to wrap the story. Given the confusing ending that walks back on the journey this was an unsatisfying conclusion.
