DC Comic reviews 2/22/22 – Task Force Z #5, Robin #11
Detective Comics #1054
In another strong week for Detective Comics, the back-and-forth battle for best read was won this round by The House of Gotham secondary story.
For this installment, writer Matthew Rosenberg had Tim Drake seek out the unnamed youth at Bruce Wayne’s request. Just when it seems like Tim might be able to get through when none of his predecessors were, along comes the new Batman to mess it all up. This was a great use of Jean-Paul Valley and this Knightfall era of Batman.
Fernando Blanco’s moody method of storytelling is making the art on this saga memorable. Paired with Jordie Bellaire’s striking colors and this has been a masterful visual.
In the Tower, writer Mariko Tamaki advances the story further with some nice tension as Dr. Wear’s plans begin to unravel. There’s an impressive sense of building dread. Artist Max Raynor does a nice job bringing the energy to the action scenes.
Detective’s hot streak continues in what’s made for a must-read arc. It seems like it’s just a few more installments away from completion, but it’s the twists and turns it’s taken it could play out a few more weeks and still be as captivating.
