Marvel Netflix shows joining Disney+ with updated parental controls

With the news that the Marvel Netflix shows were coming to Disney+, a lot of folks including the LMF podcast, wondered how the more violent shows would be presented.

The Punisher regularly gunned/knifed down bad guys, Jessica Jones kept a bottle or drink in hand on the regular and it wasn’t a real episode of Daredevil if Matt Murdock wasn’t bleeding by the end of it.

In the official announcement that Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders and The Punisher (along with Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD) are coming to Disney+ on March 16, Disney also revealed new parental controls.

These controls will prompt all U.S. subscribers to update their settings on their streaming service to include PIN Protection and enhanced content ratings.

“Disney+ has served as the home for some of the most beloved brands in the industry, and the addition of these live-action shows brings more from the Marvel brand together, all in one place,” Disney Streaming President Michael Paull said in a statement. “We have experienced great success with an expanded content offering on Disney+ across our global markets and are excited to continue that here in the U.S. as well by offering our consumers not only great content with the new Marvel additions, but also a set of features that help ensure a viewing experience most suitable for them and their family.”

That’s great news as there was literally no chance a censored Luke Cage or Punisher was going to be worth watching. And with a pair of the Marvel Netflix roster characters already surfacing in the MCU it’ll be nice for folks to refamiliarize themselves with the characters or experience their shows for the first time.

For handy reference’s sake, here’s my recommended viewing order:

Daredevil Season 1

Jessica Jones Season 1

Luke Cage Season 1

Daredevil Season 2

The Defenders

The Punisher Season 1

Luke Cage Season 2

Iron Fist Season 2

Daredevil Season 3

The Punisher Season 2

Agents of SHIELD is a different story entirely. By the midway chapter of Season 1, it got really good. Due to some limitations of budget and character access Season 2’s storyline wasn’t my favorite. Still, the series rarely waivered below solid through its run.
