Marvel Legends Quasar review – Walgreens exclusive
Quasar has been a character that toiled around in the Marvel Universe for decades before achieving a level of popularity in the 90s.
Packaging: Quasar is a Walgreens exclusive continuing the space theme so he’s got the starry backdrop and rear package artwork.
The side and rear artwork shows Quasar at his default calm and relaxed mode as he’s flying through space. It’s a great choice for him.
I wish the bio was more serviceable in explaining his powers, but the five languages make it hard to include much useful information.
Likeness: Fortunately, Hasbro went with Quasar’s signature look. Too often Hasbro likes to get fancy and go with a secondary and third most popular take on a costume and then double back for the attire most collectors wanted in the first place.
Quasar probably isn’t getting multiple figures so it was smart to go with his most iconic look. Like Wonder Man, it took Quasar a few costumes to settle in to his definitive costume and this incorporates the best elements of his earlier outfits.
For starters, there’s no mask or headband covering up Quasar’s pretty boy looks. It’s impossible to not see Robert Redford in this head sculpt, right? Maybe I’ll get another one and take the head on a suit body for a young MCU Alexander Pierce figure?
Quasar has a cool cape that flows down into a V pattern on his chest before draping his shoulders. It’s a nice unique look that helps set him apart from the Avengers and other space characters.
His quantum bands are easily one of the highlights of the figure. They are sharp and sculpted exactly like they appear in the comics.
Quasar mostly uses the Bucky Cap body, which cannot be retired soon enough. It’s too bad Hasbro couldn’t hold out on him until the Vulcan mold was ready. Quasar wasn’t ever the biggest dude, but this mold seems too slight at this point and he’s going to look small compared to newer figures.
Paint: Quasar’s paintwork is very clean. I love how his logo was painted with some white in the starburst. The reds are vibrant and the navy blue is strong. Hasbro could have used another coat of red paint at the dividing marks between the reds and blues by the waist and boots.
His Quantum Bands don’t have any paint issues thankfully. Quasar’s head sculpt is fine and Hasbro even added a brown wash to his hair.
Scale: Quasar was never super tall or wide, but he looks slight next to the 80th Anniversary Captain America, Thor or Iron Man figures.

Articulation: Quasar’s cape setup keeps his shoulders free reducing problems with them hindering his articulation. As a flying, energy projecting hero, wide range for the shoulders and simulating flying poses is key.
Quasar has:
- neck
- ball-jointed shoulders
- bicep
- elbow (double-jointed)
- wrist
- wrist hinge
- torso
- waist
- hip
- thigh
- knee (double-jointed)
- ankle
Accessories: Quasar has a nice amount of accessories. Not enough to compensate for the lack of a Build-A-Figure piece, but there’s at least some effort.
He’s got swappable set of open palm/flying hands, which are a smart inclusion. Hasbro also threw in the fireball effects from the Human Torch figures. And this is why Hasbro needs to start adding some new energy effects to the Marvel Legends line ASAP.
This accessory lineup isn’t nearly as impressive as the Doctor Strange figure, which felt like Hasbro making an effort to make up for no BAF piece.
Worth it? Quasar was priced at the new standard $22.99 price tag. Finding Marvel Legends at Walgreens these days has been a losing proposition so thankfully their website has the ship to store option meaning I didn’t have to pay $28 for him. And with gas prices skyrocketing, avoiding the futile search in stores, this was a much better option.
Now does that make him worth $23? This price point is especially tougher for Marvel Legends that don’t have BAFs connected to them.
Rating: 9 out of 10
Quasar is a very solid figure and I don’t have a ton of complaints. I’m glad he wasn’t too hard to get, but Hasbro needs to create new effect pieces and find ways to increase the value at this price point.
Where to get it? Quasar is a Walgreens exclusive. To their credit, he’s been on the site for lengthy periods of time before selling out. Currently he’s out of stock again, but there’s the chance he’ll also show up in stores too.
