IDW reviews 3/30/22 – GI Joe Real American Hero Saturday Morning Adventures #2
IDW has a colossal hit on its hands with GI Joe: A Real American Hero Saturday Morning Adventures.
Every panel feels like complete and unapologetic fan service perfectly channeling the weekday cartoon.
In this issue, Cobra Commander’s MegaBATS are invading different parts of the globe. It’s up to the Joes to stop them.
Writer Erik Burnham completely has the tone down of the series and the characterizations are spot on. The banter of Alpine and Bazooka is precise while the interplay with Destro and Baroness backseat driving on Cobra Commander’s orders are exactly right.
Artist Dan Schoening has the style of the animation down from the expressions to how the characters carry themselves.

Colorist Luis Antonio Delgado brings a vibrancy to the series that feels like each page is about to cue up another series of commercials.
Letterer Neil Uyetake mastered the subtleties of Cobra conversations from Cobra Commander’s boisterous laughs to the intentionally lower tones of Destro and Baroness.
This is a book that delivers on all fronts for longtime fans of the Joe cartoon.
Maybe newcomers wouldn’t be able to appreciate the labor of love on every page, but they’d also be treated to one of the absolute best books on the stands today.
