WWE Legends Series 14 Chyna review

Chyna was the silent enforcer of the original DX and carried that role under Triple H’s leadership. During one of the new DX’s most rambunctious outings, they invaded WCW in a tank Humvee jeep. Chyna was along for the fun while keeping a straight face through the mischief.

With Legends Series 14, we knock out two more DX members from that iconic moment. Let’s see how Mattel handled this version of the Ninth Wonder of the World.

Packaging:  The Legends line is my favorite of the WWE package set ups thanks to the gold, brown and yellow color combination. The iconic portrait of the character also adds a nice, classy presentation.

The bio is a masterclass in figure package copywriting. Copywriter Roger Rudman really has fun with this bio taking some creative liberties that the nWo, Four Horsemen and even Sting were shook to confront Chyna.

Likeness:  Chyna was a massive and intimidating figure compared to the Divas of the early stages of the Attitude Era. Most of this figure uses the base of the previous Chyna figures.

The biggest change is the hairstyle. It’s weird how this makes enough of a difference to validate another DX era Chyna.

The bangs over her forehead are sculpted nicely and the flow of her hair with some coming over her left shoulder is a solid touch.

I still think Mattel makes Chyna’s fists look too small. Assuming the pegs fit, regular size dude fists would look better.

She retains the choker from the first figure. Her torso is the same as the Wrestlemania version with a unique sports bra.

With three Chyna figures so far, Mattel has done a decent job of mixing them up enough to work in different eras of her career.

Next up, I’m hoping we get the Corporate Chyna version with her more glammed up appearance.

Scale:  Chyna is 5’10” making her shorter than the rest of DX from the 6’1″ X-Pac, 6’2″ Road Dogg and the 6’4″ Billy Gunn and Triple H.

MORE:

Paint: Chyna’s attire was always a simple black. This doesn’t make for the flashiest figure, but the work on her eyeliner and lipstick is sharp. The choker studs are pretty good as well considering they can always be a little tricky.

The rose tattoo on her left shoulder isn’t painted like the original figure.

Articulation:  Since Legends Series 13, the figures have now incorporated double-jointed elbows. Since Chyna is largely a reuse of the older figure, she still has single-jointed elbows.

I’ll give Mattel a one-time benefit of the doubt here that they’d have to tool new arms for Chyna and couldn’t get it done in time for this figure. Going forward, subsequent Chyna figures will need this joint however.

It’s not as major a deal in this instance since Invasion Chyna didn’t do anything but stand silently while the rest of DX clowned around.

On the plus side, this base Chyna body had more articulation than the older female figures with better range in her torso, elbows and knees. You won’t have any trouble doing her ring second finishing move of a low blow.

  • ball-jointed shoulders
  • elbows
  • wrists
  • wrist hinge
  • torso
  • waist
  • hips
  • thighs
  • knees (double-jointed)
  • ankles

Accessories:  Chyna’s gear for the Invasion was simple — she wore a leather vest.

It wasn’t overly complicated and allows for easy conversion to another look for seconding a DX member at ringside. That versatility is appreciated.

Like the others, in reality DX brought out M-16s for effect while Chyna also had some ammo straps across her shoulders. This takes away a bit from the authenticity of her appearance, but it’s not that hard to find those for Chyna’s full look.

Chyna also comes with a set of swappable gripping hands. These are sized better and might make for better default hands.

Worth it?  Chyna and the rest of Legends Series 14 clock in at the older retail price of $19.99. I was able to grab her, Road Dogg and Mean Mark on the final hours of the Target Spend $50, get $10 sale so she was an even better deal for me. That’s definitely the route going forward with rising figure costs.

Rating:  9.5 out of 10

I appreciate Mattel actually giving us a unique look for Chyna and not mailing in her invasion look. The tiny fists are the main thing holding her back.
