Box office roundup

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness summons solid 2nd box office weekend

Doctor Strange’s sequel didn’t face much competition at theaters making for an easy repeat weekend atop the box office.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness earned $61 million. That was good enough to take the top spot again. This was slightly lower than the sophomore weekend of The Batman, which took in $66 million. Strange’s sequel is now at a healthy $292 million domestically and $688 million worldwide.

It’ll be interesting to see if Strange will top The Batman’s total domestic gross of $369.2 million. Multiverse of Madness has one more clear weekend to bridge the gap before Top Gun: Maverick lands in theaters on May 27.

The Bad Guys once again held it down in second place with $6.9 million to add to its $66.2 million domestic haul and $165.5 million worldwide.

Still rolling along was Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which came in at third place with $4.5 million. That’s very solid for the film’s sixth weekend as it crossed another milestone with $175.7 million.

Firestarter flamed out as the lone new arrival. It brought in a meager $3.8 million that was good enough for fourth place. Considering the film’s $12 million budget, it’ll make a profit but just barely.

Everything Everywhere All at Once rounds out the Top 5 again with $3.3 million, which takes it to $47.1 million in eight weeks.
