Radiant Red #4

The fourth installment of Radiant Red shows the beauty of a story arc coming together on all levels.

Satomi is dealing with a reporter that’s getting a little too close to Radiant Red’s identity. Her relationship with Owen is seemingly hanging by a thread and she’s still got a heist to pull off with Shift that could eliminate all her financial problems.

Writer Cherish Chen gets how to make a relatable character. Maybe not with the supersuit that allows Satimi to smash through walls and absorb massive amounts of energy, but all the important elements that make a character worthy of getting invested in their exploits.

Satomi is a little fed up. Between the reporter’s probe and her growing disconnect with Owen, it’s not hard to see why Satomi would be drawn to the outlaw life offered by Shift and his associates.

Artist David Lafuente has a distinct animated style with slightly exaggerated proportions for characters and intense emotions. It fits beautifully with the tone of the title and provides Radiant Red a unique style that would easily translate to an animated film or series.

The bold colors from Miguel Muerto subtly reflects the character moods and pop off the pages.

This issue features a great cliffhanger that sets up for an eventful finale for this mini-series.
