Blood Syndicate Season One #4

Blood-Syndicate-Season-One-4-1

We’re four issues into the modernization of Blood Syndicate and it still hasn’t clicked.

Writer Geoffrey Thorne seems more preoccupied with inserting Spanish words and phrases than creating an engaging environment where these disparate gang members unite to take down Holocaust.

That’s coming as Thorne sets that showdown up, but it feels like a side quest instead of the main plot. Thorne is also struggling in juggling the various characters, which is more pronounced as more former gang members sign up for the alliance to stop Holocaust.

Chrisscross and Sean Damien Hill split the art duties, which works since it’s an even breakdown of responsibilities and their styles are complementary.

Static, Hardware and Icon & Rocket’s first seasons successfully updated the character origins for a new generation. So far Thorne’s take on the Syndicate requires a deep knowledge and love of the original team to appreciate the slow burn story he’s telling.

I’m still hopeful Thorne can turn it around, but this issue didn’t make the turnaround I’m anticipating.
