Batman Superman World’s Finest #6

Mark Waid actually understands DC characters. This feels in short supply with too many DC writers these days, but it’s the “special” yet not so secret ingredient of his World’s Finest run.

That means when Robin is lost in time, Waid knows exactly how Batman and Superman would find him and how Dick Grayson would pass the time. And not surprisingly it involves solving a mystery.

That this is the exception instead of the unyielding norm at DC is very problematic. At least Waid can be counted on to deliver a story that both feels timeless and essential in the modern DC landscape.

No wonder the Batman in this series isn’t a stranger to smiling — this title is so fun it’s capable of making the dour Dark Knight enjoy himself.
Travis Moore fills in for Dan Mora on art duties this issue. That’s a wise choice as Moore did some stellar work on Nightwing during the amnesia arc. Moore has a classic style and his Batman and Superman look appropriately older than Robin.

Tamra Bonvillain’s color work is rich and warm in complementing Moore’s artwork in contrast to the striking hues she uses on Mora’s pencils.

This is a title that has a basic formula with simple plots, but it’s one of DC’s Top 3 titles simply due to Waid’s comprehensive understanding of the characters. This is another highly recommended issue for one of DC’s finest.
