A chief element of Tom Taylor’s Nightwing run has been the sense of superhero community he’s established. No hero is an island, not even those on Bludhaven.

Taylor has made sure that one of the more popular heroes has his friends and support system whenever he needs a little help.  This issue marks the big offensive against Blockbuster and his criminal empire. Now that Blockbuster knows Dick’s sister is working against him there’s a limited window for Blockbuster and Nightwing’s forces to strike a decisive blow.

Nightwing isn’t doing it alone with expected cameos from the Titans, The Bat Family and one Dark Knight. I love the actual give and take where Taylor has Batman pop up in Nightwing as often as writers will bring Nightwing in to Batman titles. They’re longtime partners and it should be reciprocal in terms of helping the other out in tough situations.

And with Maggie Sawyer now in Bludhaven, Taylor doesn’t pass up the opportunity for some continuity appropriate scenes with a certain Bat Family member.

Bruno Redondo’s art is such a treat. It only takes for the second and third page for Redondo to throw in some unexpected fun layout that completely fits the flow of the story. He’s truly got a gift for capturing Nightwing’s fighting style and body language like few artists before him.

Adriano Lucas’ colors are comforting and soothing as always while Wes Abbott’s lettering embraces the good-natured tone of the book.

Nightwing’s war with Blockbuster definitely raises the stakes in Bludhaven and a big cliffhanger ensures things will dramatically change for Dick Grayson going forward. It’s Taylor, Redondo, Lucas and Aboott. Don’t miss this one even if it’s your first time checking out this amazing Nightwing run.
