Jeremy Adams undoubtedly has been one of the best newer recruits to the DC writers ranks. It’s not just the creative approach he’s had on this run of The Flash, but the obvious affinity he has for the legacy of the various characters that have held the mantle of The Fastest Man Alive.

Adams isn’t making wholesale changes just to leave a vanity mark on his tenure. The better approach is exactly what Adams is doing — respectfully build on what’s come before him and add to the mythos instead of ignoring established history.

This Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths tie-in issue finds Team Flash traveling through various worlds in the multiverse to find Barry Allen.

Max Mercury and Jesse Quick encounter a Barry on a Mad Max influenced world. All that was missing was the suspended in mid-air bass guitarist.
Jai and Irey are on a world patrolled by The Night Flash while Wally and Wallace are in an old school 50s world where Barry has been transported.

These scenarios are fun and Adams knows how to keep the subplots moving at a rate they don’t feel like a drag. Add in Linda Park West’s newly revealed superspeed and this was an eventful issue.

And it’s nice to see a title actually recognize the events of Dark Crisis in real time.

Amancay Nahuelpan’s art is serviceable but doesn’t have the same level of realism and detail as previous artist Fernando Pasarin. Nahuelpan’s pages do reflect the different tones of the three worlds well. Jeromy Cox’s color work adds another layer of vibrancy to the pages especially with the shifting world landscapes.

The Flash isn’t a title that can be skipped at this point. It remains consistently strong and earns more goodwill for staying in tune with DC’s big crossover event.
