DC Comics reviews 11/22/22 – DC vs Vampires #11, Human Target #9

Batman Fortress #9

Batman’s team reaches its final step in reaching the center of Superman’s Fortress of Solitude, but they’re not prepared for the massive bombshell that awaits.

Writer Gary Whitta has done some interesting characterization of the cast. He’s boiled Lex Luthor down to his most devious and opportunistic. Emiko is a wild card and Batman has to keep these random personalities together. It’s a creative bit of chaos that works in the scope of this story as heists require distinct character attributes.

This issue is lighter on action with just a few more booby traps to spring. Good thing Batman’s team still has some help even before he gets reunited with an old friend.

Darick Robertson’s art gives the issue a welcome dose of tension and uneasiness thanks to the dramatic perspectives. Diego Rodriguez’s richly saturated colors give an extra jolt to the visuals.

This was a solid penultimate issue with a cliffhanger that sets the stage for a memorable finale.
