Marvel Legends Havok – BAF Bonebreaker wave
Havok is a character I have a deep appreciation for since I really got hooked on X-Men just as he joined the team. I got into X-Men and X-Factor right around the dawn of Mutant Massacre and Classic X-Men caught me up on all the established history. I dug how Havok just kind of went back to his old team and became an established member through X-tinction Agenda.
For way too long Havok has been on my list of Toy Biz Marvel Legends in need of a Hasbro upgrade. Hasbro, being Hasbro, decided to do a modern take on Havok followed by the X-Factor ver. 2 attire. Now finally, Hasbro is providing the version of Havok that I wanted all along. Let’s see if he was worth the wait.
Packaging: David Nakayama takes care of the entire Build-A-Figure Bonebreaker packaging art. That’s great for consistency and also because Nakayama delivers the best artwork for the line.
Again, of note this wave has red accents instead of the typical X-Men yellow orange.
The bio is OK but doesn’t explain Vulcan’s powers or the fact that Cyclops is his other brother, which is weird.
Likeness: About 90% of this figure is exactly what I wanted. Havok’s crown piece is about as thin as I imagine it can be in figure form. The jewel in the center is well sculpted with tiny circles surrounding it.
That’s an impressive bit of detail. There’s no angry face like the Toy Biz figure. Hasbro’s Havok has a calm expression that works so much better for the default figure.
Havok is using the Sunfire mold, which is a smart choice for him since he’s never been portrayed as this buff dude. Ideally Hasbro would have used flat palms instead of fists if they could only have one. For my other issues, let’s go on to the paint section.
And it’s nice to see some carry over from the previous Havok figure with a similar likeness.
Paint: As always, Hasbro seemed to go with the oddball/modern-esque take on a classic look. There’s some distinguishing elements to Havok’s original attire specifically the concentric lines having some black around them to simulate his power channeling.
He’s got a glowing blue in the center — that looks nice — is more in line with the contemporary takes on this costume instead of the sweet Neal Adams design.
Hasbro could have also expanded the circle’s radius slightly before it started creeping over to the shoulder articulation, but I see why they opted to keep it tight.
Additionally, Havok’s neck piece is missing — something the Toy Biz figure accomplished simply from using some silver paint around his neck. I would have liked that to have been sculpted in a 2022 figure but leaving it off entirely is more annoying.
Finally, my figure had some overspray of the black lining of the mask. It’s a thing that becomes more noticeable the closer you get to him.
Scale: Havok should be either the second or tied for second tallest of the Outback squad standing noticeably over Longshot, Dazzler, Rogue and Wolverine and eye to eye with Storm and looking up at Colossus.

Articulation: The Sunfire mold allows for nice roaring back and forward of the shoulders for dynamic energy projection poses.
Havok has:
- neck
- ball-jointed shoulders
- bicep
- elbow (double-jointed)
- wrist
- wrist hinge
- torso
- waist
- hip
- thigh
- knee (double-jointed)
- ankle
Accessories: Too many figures in this wave came up real short on the accessory front. That’s not the case with Havok. Not only does he have energy effects, but they’re actually new.
These parts reflect Havok unleashing his power. They’re made of a translucent blue plastic and look amazing. It’s nice to finally get some new energy effect pieces in this line.
Beyond the two wrist effect pieces, Havok has a bigger, larger effect that plugs into his back to fully showcase Havok’s power unleased. This is the kind of thing collectors were paying Can of Beams for at about the cost of the longtime ML price point. Granted, it lacks some of the detail you’d see from COB, but this is a major positive going forward for Hasbro.
Additionally, he’s got the two drum barrels for the Build-A-Figure Bonebreaker.
Worth it? Havok was the one figure of this wave that I didn’t get on clearance so I ended up paying the full $22.99 for him. Of course, I’d love to have gotten him for under $10, but at least the new accessory pieces make it feel like Hasbro added some extra value for him.
Rating: 9.5 out of 10
Havok is almost there, but the missing neck piece and blue energy circles hold him back slightly from a perfect score. Otherwise, this is a long overdue update figure Hasbro knocked out.
Where to get it? For some reason Target never seemed to get Havok in and my Walmarts are a Marvel Legends desert. You can get him from Amazon or Entertainment Earth.
