AEW Unmatched John Silver review Series 3
John Silver is one of those guys that really benefits from AEW. He’d be wasted in WWE and probably be just another face in Impact. AEW allows a guy like Silver to show off his personality as well as his wrestling skills. He’s been one of the breakout members of The Dark Order so it was a given he’d make the cut in the first dedicated Dark Order wave.
While his regular tag team partner Alex Reynolds has to wait longer at least we’ve got the mighty muscle of the crew. Let’s see if this figure is gold or a tarnished take on Silver.
Packaging: Talking about the Unmatched and Unrivaled packaging feels redundant. I love the silver foil on the Unmatched series, but really wish Jazwares would enhance basically everything else from the side portrait and include a bio.
There is a new feature here with the addition of a tab for three exclusive Upper Deck trading cards.
Likeness: With Silver’s default head is fine. The likeness is there and solid, but he’s got so much personality that the alternate head feels more fitting. It’s why Jazwares including two head portraits is such a major selling point to these series.
Silver is the definition of short and stocky. His mold is OK, but Jazwares could have made his arms and thighs thicker.
Scale: Silver is the shortest member of the Dark Order at 5’5” — assuming you don’t include Negative One — so he’s looking up at the 6’4” Mr. Brodie Lee, the 5’10” Stu Grayson and 6’ Evil Uno.

Paint: Silver’s attire isn’t overly complicated, but it features more purple than the rest of his crew. Jazwares did right by The Dark Order in ensuring the purple is consistent with every figure.
The kneepad design came out clean and the work on his beard is crisp as well. Again, the alternate head fares better as Jazwares gets to show off his glossy lifelike work on the teeth and tongue, which is exquisitely done at this scale.
Articulation: Silver is a firecracker cannonball capable of solid grappling and sudden impact strikes. The Unmatched articulation scheme allows him to pull off most of his moves with no problem.
Silver can actually do his gripping his forearms pose, which is kinda cool.
John Silver has:
- neck
- bicep
- ball-jointed shoulders
- elbows (double-jointed)
- wrists
- wrist hinge
- torso
- waist
- hips
- thighs
- knees (double-jointed)
- ankles
Accessories: Silver comes with his entrance robe.
I don’t mind if these sleeveless robes are plastic since they’re not nearly as problematic to take on and off.
He’s also got a swappable set of fists and The Dark Order hand gesture.
I’ve mentioned this several times, but the alternate head is a great addition that adds so much to the figure.
And if you’re so inclined, the trading cards are another accessory if you want to count them.
Worth it? The Unmatched line, like every other figure line, has seen a price increase. I don’t know if Silver would be worth $21.99, but thanks to a Target sale and some Shopkicks, I got him for under $18 making for a good deal.
Rating: 9.5 out of 10
I really liked how Silver turned out. Jazwares is pretty much massive hit or questionable miss with the figure execution. Silver is definitely one of the former.
Where to get it? Target has definitely improved on getting these guys on the shelves and is your best option. Gamestop has Silver listed for a September release so that’s an option. Amazon is starting to get these figures in as well albeit a little slower.
