DC Comics reviews 1/10/23 – The Flash #790, Lazarus Planet: Alpha #1
Batman Incorporated #4
Writer Ed Brisson is really taking this series into an interesting direction. And it’s one that is actually a lot more intriguing than an offshoot of Batman semi-supporting characters teaming up. Brisson has set up an anti-Batman Incorporated team, but it’s comprised of characters that have a legit beef with Ghost-Maker.
But first, the rest of Batman Inc. has to deal with the new threats going after the targets they’ve been assigned by Ghost-Maker to protect while Ghost-Maker tries to figure out what happened to Clownhunter.
The new threats aren’t generic characters and have their own unique looks and costumes. And they interact like they’ve been a cohesive unit comfortable working with each other much longer than Ghost-Maker’s Batman Inc. squad. Brisson has established throughout the first arc that Ghost-Maker isn’t exactly the best leader and this issue puts that on full display.
John Timms’ art is very lively with a constant sense of movement. Occasionally it was hard to decipher everything that was happening during some action sequences. Timms seemed like he got focused on the flow of the fight and lost track of how the reader would interpret the layouts. Still, this is better than too static, flat imagery especially for such an action-heavy title. Rex Lokus’ colors are nice and vibrant to match the dynamic action.
I wasn’t sure how this title was going to play out when it was announced, but so far Brisson and Timms are making it click while doing their best to make it more than just another in an endless series of Batman-related titles.
