Image Comics reviews 1/25/23 – The Magic Order Vol. 4 #1, Junkyard Joe #4
Inferno Girl Red Book One #1
The Massive-Verse gets a new hero with the debut of Inferno Girl Red.
Similar to the other titles in this universe, Inferno Girl Red is an easy read. Writer Mat Groom makes the book instantly accessible in introducing readers to Cassia Costa and her journalist mother, Ana, who used to chronicle the adventures of Inferno Girl Red.
Cassia won a lottery to enroll in a prestigious school ran by Dr. Janine Caro. The school is everything Cassia imagined and more — from the free flowing classroom discussions to her intriguing classmates Harriette and Thomas to the spacious campus library. It’s all great until a beam of light transports the campus off and surrounding area to another dimension and Casia finds a bracelet mysteriously attached to her wrist. This device has the hidden bonus of changing her into a new version of Inferno Girl Red.
The art from co-creator Erica D’urso is stunning. Even in the slow moments, D’urso infuses so much energy and liveliness to each panel that a class discussion looks anything but boring. Lorenzo Tammetta provides background assists as well.
Likewise, the colors from Igor Monti (with assists from Sabrina del Grosso) are incredible with bold combinations that seem to explode off the pages.
Inferno Girl Red is yet another quick hitting, engaging Massive-Verse read that shouldn’t take long to find and expand its audience. This was a promising debut and one that has me anxiously awaiting the next installment.
