DC Comics reviews 2/21/23 – Superman #1, Nightwing #101

Titans United Bloodpact #6

Titans-United-Bloodpact-6

Titans United Bloodpact wrapped the third TV Titans-focused series with the team’s final face off with Brother Blood and his corrupted Raven.
This issue felt somewhat anticlimactic as writer Cavan Scott repeated the betrayal possession angle he’s used in previous issues. This came at the expense of having to rush to a hastily explained conclusion that lacked the impact as most moments in the series.

Scott did deliver an action heavy script this issue with Nightwing, Donna Troy and the rest of the Titans on constant alert fighting Blood’s forces. It would have been nice to see more instances of teamwork and overall team interaction. The rushed ending led to less moments of what made the series so entertaining in the first place.

Artist Lucas Meyer delivered some thrilling pages with clean action sequences along with splendid less active scenes requiring emotive takes on the characters. Colorist Tony Avina continued to do masterful work with bold colors for the Titans while retaining an underlined red hue for Raven’s world.

With the Titans TV series cancelled, this is likely the last hurrah for this lineup in the comics. Scott, Meyer and Avina provided another mini-series that embraced comic book scale action on a stronger scope than its source material.

Even with a somewhat underwhelming conclusion, Bloodpact was worth checking out for Titans fans.
