DC Comics reviews 2/21/23 – Superman #1, Nightwing #101

Wonder Woman and Wonder Girl’s clash with Eros has been a slog.

The title has occasionally had some encouraging moments, but writers Michael Conrad and Becky Cloonan fail to find a consistent quality level to their stories. This one has been one of the more disappointing arcs as it just never feels like Eros is a legit threat to Diana and Yara.

Meanwhile, Siegfried & Steve Trevor and Etta Candy and Cheetah continue their efforts to stop Eros’ love bomb.

There’s just an overwhelming lack of suspense with the events happening to any of the characters as Cloonrad has basically placed all the characters in bubble wrap incapable of any harm or long-term problems.

The artwork from Amancay Nahuelpan is solid with some very strong panels and pages. Jordie Bellaire’s color work is sensational bringing out vibrant choices that liven up the action.

There’s an interesting cliffhanger, but it gets continued as part of the underwhelming Lazarus Planet event and because Cloonrad has burned readers too often with a potentially interesting storyline resulting in a lackluster payoff.
