DC Comics reviews 3/21/23 – Superman #2, The Flash #795

Over the last week when news was announced that writer Jeremy Adams’ run is ending with issue 800, there wasn’t a shortage of sites discussing why this has been such a phenomenal and joyous run for fans of Wally West and The Flash Family. And that was before the end of this issue, which should spark an even wider social media wave of appreciation and adoration as Adams fixes one of DC’s biggest missteps in the past decade.

If Adams accomplishes what he teases it’s going to complete the loop on the greatest restoration effort since Hal Jordan turned into Parallax.

The importance of this moment was underscored by semi-regular Flash artist Fernando Pasarin being the one to illustrate the final two pages.

It’s not so much that the rest of the issue didn’t matter so much as Adams deserved this moment to fix a horrible editorial decision and set things right. And if any writer warranted this opportunity it’s the guy who’s made this chapter of Wally West so enjoyable and fun.

Adams’ love of the Flash Family doesn’t start and end with Wally however. He gives each of then family their special time to shine in One Minute War. Barry has a plan that can set things right and end the threat of The Fraction before it gets started, but he’ll need everyone’s help to make it happen including the return of a certain Golden Age hero.

The art is largely split between Roger Cruz and George Kambadais. Kambadais has a more cartoonish, exaggerated style than Cruz so the threat of the Fraction is never conveyed as menacing visually as intended.

Luis Guerrero’s colors are nicely vibrant providing the right amount of pop for a Flash story, which more than any other A-lister besides Superman benefits the most from dazzling use of primary colors to tell the story.

One Minute War has one more issue and this final page definitely should leave longtime Wally West fans hyped for the OMW finale.
