Dark Knights of Steel #10

About the only frustrating aspect about Dark Knights of Steel is the sometimes lengthy wait between issues. Once a new installment arrives all is quickly forgiven.

Martian Manhunter has been outed and now is willing to do whatever is necessary to preserve the newfound peace including revealing his origin to the four queens. Writer Tom Taylor doesn’t dramatically alter J’onn J’onzz’s backstory, but he still manages to make it as tragic as ever. This does come at the expense of not being able to advance much more of the story, but Taylor does such a strong job it’s understandable.

Yamine Putri’s art remains worth the wait. Putri really captures this mythological tone of the series and draws the characters with a sense of regal elegance. With a chapter largely focusing on aliens, Putri shows an easily adaptable style that still fits within the context of Dark Knights of Steel. Arif Prianto uses rich subtle color gradients and blends that add to the fantasy feel for the series.

With two more episodes left, the action is likely to intensify making for what should be a strong finale for one of DC’s best Elseworlds tales this side of DCeased.
