WWE Legends Series 14 Mean Mark Callous review

Every so often Mattel will release an unexpected Legends figure beyond the WWE-only bubble. In most cases those figures have been some of the best in the Legends line mainly because Mattel execs try to get this likely one and done figure just right.

Mark Callous isn’t exactly a new superstar in the line with probably 50-60 Elites, Basics, Defining Moments, Ultimate Edition figures in his guise as The Undertaker. But a Mean Mark figure? That’s a sweet spot that’s very exciting for NWA/WCW fans like myself eagerly awaiting 80s and early 90s characters.

Let’s see if I’ve got the heart to trash this figure if it’s underwhelming or reach out and call someone with my oversized brick cell phone to sings its praises.

Packaging:  The Legends line remains my favorite of the WWE package set ups and just overall figure lines I collect. I love the gold, brown and yellow color combination along with an actual iconic portrait of the character. It makes for a nice, classy presentation.

This is a stellar bio acknowledging the future of The Undertaker but focusing on the NWA/WCW era with his feuds against the Road Warriors and others.

It’s another example of why Mattel is the best in the business with these WWE bios.

Likeness:  This is an excellent head sculpt. It doesn’t look like Taker with shorter hair. It’s got the ornery expression of Mean Mark just right. His hair is cropped short on the sides with a little brush back action in the front with an impressive mullet.

I just wish the mold line of his hair blended in more seamlessly with his sideburns.

Mean Mark wasn’t flashy. He was decked out in simple tights and tall boots. I hate the thick kneepads Mattel went with but appreciate the inclusion of his right elbow pad.

Scale: Callous is 6’10” making him tower over the 6’3″ Lex Luger and Hawk and 5’10” Flyin Brian.

MORE:

Paint: Callous had a dirtier shade of red hair and Mattel did a nice job conveying that and carrying it through to his light beard.

Again, Callous had a very simple look so there’s not a lot of interesting colors in his attire. The elbow pad has an accurate red lining. I had to check around to verify the white socks peering over the boots and the red leg sleeves.

Mattel also went the extra route to paint the black glove with mesh instead of one solid piece. That’s nice attention to detail.

Articulation:  For a giant in WCW, Mean Mark was surprisingly agile doing most of his trademark Undertaker spots back against the Road Warriors and Lex Luger.

You can easily do the rope walk and flying clotheslines.

I definitely appreciate getting the double-jointed elbow here as it makes for a much more convincing heart punch finisher.

Mean Mark Callous has:

  • neck
  • bicep
  • ball-jointed shoulders
  • elbows (double-jointed)
  • wrists
  • wrist hinge
  • waist
  • hips
  • thighs
  • knees (double-jointed)
  • ankles

Accessories: Mean Mark comes with two swappable gripping hands.

The nice aspect of the figure is he actually has his full ring gear with his black vest and chaps. I expected the vest, but the chaps were a surprise inclusion and appreciated. They fit on and come off with no trouble at all.

Worth it?  For reasons I can’t comprehend or care about, Target put Legends 14 back at the $19.99 price point instead of $21.99. That was helpful as well as the deal Target had for buying multiple figures when these arrived.

Rating: 9.5 out of 10

The hair mold line bothers me more than I expected, but this is otherwise a great figure. Hopefully Mattel can give us a manager Teddy Long to accompany him. And a Dan Spivey since I’m being greedy.

Where to get it?  The WWE Legends line is exclusive to Target. So far, I haven’t had any problems finding a full set when I hit up various Targets. You can also go through Target’s website for a curbside pickup with no trouble either.
