Star Wars The Black Series Plo Koon figure review
Plo Koon quickly became one of my favorite Jedi from the prequels. He has such a unique look and in some other cannon, he’s likely be portrayed as a villain. Plo Koon was one of the prominent background Jedi through the Prequel Trilogy and survived the Clone Wars right to the end.
I don’t know how deep into prequel Jedi I’ll go for this scale, but Plo Koon was a must and I’m glad Hasbro knocked him out for the Star Wars Black Series line.
Packaging: I’d long since grown tired of the traditional Black Series packaging with the black and red accents with the grayscale portrait of the figure.
The bio is nicely done and summarizes his role with the Jedi Council well.
Likeness: Plo Koon stood out from most of the Jedi thanks to his intricate mouth mask, cybernetic eyes and horned ears. He just has such a cool visual and looks like a seasoned Jedi Master.
Hasbro did a terrific job on the head sculpt right down to the grid pattern in his eye implants and the crystal shaped design in his mouth mask.
His head features a number of wrinkles and crevices, which were faithfully replicated with the figure.
He rocks a turtleneck to further establish his cool, laid-back personality.
For the most part this is a reuse of the Mace Windu figure just with the head, neck piece and hands. Let’s talk the hands, which also were faithfully captured complete with the longer black middle nail.

Paint: The paintwork on Plo is stellar with the metallic parts having a dull copper like appearance. Hasbro used a wash to bring out all the details in his head.
I don’t have a ton of references for the appropriate colors of his tunic and garment as for the most part he kept his robe on during the films. I wouldn’t be opposed to having a Clone Wars Plo Koon by the way.
Scale: Since Mace is one of the taller Jedi, using him as the base body for Plo Koon made sense and allows him to stand just a bit taller thanks to the neck piece.
Articulation: The Mace body has a solid range of motion allowing Plo to hit your standard lightsaber poses. His robe doesn’t get in the way of posing so it’s up to you in terms of how you have him set up.
I wish he had a smidge more range in his elbows so he could do double grip lightsaber poses a little easier.
You will need to pop the head off to take the robe off due to how it’s positioned, however.
Plo Koon has:
- neck
- ball-jointed shoulders
- elbow (with swivel)
- wrist
- wrist hinge
- torso
- hips
- thighs
- knees (swivel)
- ankles
Accessories: Unlike many of the Jedi figures in this line Plo Koon actually has everything I’d want from a Clone Wars era combatant.
Naturally he’s got his lightsaber — Plo Koon prefers the blue version.
Normally, even with these smaller detail pieces Hasbro has the paintjob covered. That’s not the case with the lightsaber, which is missing a few paint apps and has some extra silver on the black area of the hilt.
The blade itself has a nice strong shade of translucent blue and looks fantastic.
What stands Plo Koon apart from the other Jedi figures is he actually has his Jedi robe. Normally we get the Jedi in ready for battle mode instead of chilling/waiting on the Jedi Council robe attire. The robe hangs nicely though I need to tamper it down a bit so the turtleneck top of the tunic shows up.
I don’t remember him raising the hood even though that is an option although it doesn’t look great.
Worth it? I got Plo Koon for $20 the soon to be departed regular price for these figures. I suspect the price hike is going to most strongly affect the Black Series figures since they don’t tend to come with a ton of extras.
Rating: 9.5 out of 10
Plo Koon is a very fun figure adding one of the fan favorite Jedi to the mix. His sleeves restrict his elbow movement ever so slightly, but that didn’t prevent me from really digging this figure. Now let’s get a Clone Wars version, please Hasbro.
Where to get it? You can still get Plo Koon on Amazon.
