Image Comic reviews 8/16/23 – Void Rivals #3, The Magic Order Vol. 4 #6
Antarctica #2
Antarctica is proving to be a very fun sci-fi thriller. Hannah encounters a parallel version of herself and in a welcome change of pace, the two go to their respective bases instead of fighting. There’s enough tension in Hannah’s ship as is with one of the four crew members has bound another. Phillip might be the wild card but Dr. Hirsch is the more essential member since she has a clue what’s actually happening.
Matteo, Hannah, Hirsch and Phillip do still have to worry about their station being overrun placing one of them in a life-threatening situation.
But it’s the realization of their fate that makes things far more interesting.
Writer Simon Birks makes effective use of the page count to properly advance the story, offer up just enough new information to keep readers on the hook but holding back enough answers to maintain the mystery.
Willi Roberts’ artwork is a tad rough, particularly with character faces, but the layouts are smooth and easy to follow with a strong sense of movement and momentum.
Lyndon White’s lettering seems either too spaced out or not making the best use of the dialogue bubble space.
These minor technical aspects can get cleaned up over the time. The bigger elements are solid enough to ensure that I stick around for the next installment of this desolation sci-fi expedition.
