Power Rangers Lightning Collection Mighty Morphin Eye Guy review
Eye Guy is another wild addition to the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Lightning Collection line. He’s got one of the crazier visuals with a body comprised entirely of eyes.
As Hasbro has been rolling out all kinds of fun monsters into the line, Eye Guy was certainly deserving of getting the figure treatment. Ollie’s has been getting Lightning Collection figures at a faster rate than I expected. With a “slight” backlog of reviews, I hadn’t gotten around to picking up the available MMPR villains and was ecstatic to find him for $10.
Let’s see if the eyes have it or if this figure needed some glasses for better execution.
Packaging: The setup is basically the same as the standard figures with the expected fun artwork, which gets a boost from the wider window and larger character portrait that goes along the front and side.
I still think Hasbro missed a great opportunity to have a bit more fun in personalizing the packaging by including bios for the monsters. Granted, some casual collectors might just buy them for the freakiness factor, but a little back story never hurt in terms of selling a figure.
Likeness: Eye Guy is not a bait and switch character as he looks exactly like his name would imply — he’s a mass of various sized eyes. The sculpt is really well done with the creepy head with regular eyes, eye ears and a central eye residing in the mouth. The mouth has some exquisite detail with the jagged lower row of teeth.
In between the mass of eyes, there’s some strong wrinkled skin folds as well to really give him a nightmarish portrayal. For the show, Eye Guy had three fingers, which is faithfully replicated with the figure.
Hasbro seemed to tease at the nipple blasting eyes making them more prominent in the chest area, but they sadly don’t detach.

Scale: Eye Guy wasn’t a giant (until his metamorphosis) and like most of the deluxe size figures, is simply just a bit wider and taller than the standard Power Rangers.
Paint: Eye Guy’s paint job is probably the weakest aspect of the figure. In the show he’s more of a dingy grey. The clean white Hasbro opted for makes him look way too shiny. They also decided against painting all of the sculpted eyes.
There’s plenty of sculpted eye sockets that lack painted irises and pupils. Coloring more of them in would have with the darker appearance from the show although he could also use a much darker wash as well.
On the plus side, the main eye looks tremendous with a glossy grey pupil that contrasts against the red sclera.
Articulation: Eye Guy shoved and pushed the Rangers around while his preferred attack method was from a distance.
He’s got good articulation allowing him to pummel the Rangers just fine if they want to get in close on him. Eye Guy’s shoulders have the standard range you’d expect, but they are tight enough that it almost feels like it won’t budge. They do with a little effort and give him a modicum of butterfly shoulder range.
His waist has a bit of spring to it. It’s not intended as an action feature, but almost behaves in that manner so it won’t lock into place for pivoting or twisting poses.
Eye Guy has:
- eyelid
- shoulders (butterfly)
- elbow
- wrist
- waist
- hip
- thigh
- knee (double-jointed)
- ankle
Accessories: Hasbro has been pretty good about making sure to include a solid amount of accessories with the deluxe figures.
Eye Guy comes with swappable hands. The standout accessory is his separate main eye.
This rests on a stand so you can imagine the whole floating large eye deal. It’s got some great membrane detail as well as some translucent green energy trails.
Its stand holds up the weight of the eye with little problem.
Worth it? The Lightning Collection deluxe figures usually start off at $33.99. With a little patience, you can typically find them for much cheaper. I grabbed Eye Guy at Ollie’s for $10. That price point is awesome for a fun deluxe figure like this one.
Rating: 9 out of 10
Hasbro needed to dirty up Eye Guy some with a darker wash and actually fill in the sculpted eyes, but I really had fun with him. He’s a beefy enough figure that he faces off with the Power Rangers on his own just fine. And for $10 this was a great value.
Where to get it? If you’ve got an Ollie’s in your area, check them out first as they’ve been stocking Eye Guy and other deluxe Lightning Collection figures over the last few months. Failing that you can also get him from Amazon, which has him for under $20.
