Marvel Legends Spider-Man Black and Gold Suit review – BAF Armadillo
Hasbro finally revealed the latest batch of Marvel Legends from Spider-Man: No Way Home so it made sense to break down the far earlier arrival of Spider-Man Black and Gold suit figure. This has been a pretty popular variant since it featured a snazzy color scheme that stands out even among the seemingly thousands of Spider-Man variants.
Its popularity made it hard to track down. I was finally able to get it and get another step closer not just to building out my Spider-Man display, but to get a step closer to finally completing the Build-A-Figure Armadillo.
Let’s see if this Spidey variant is worth its weight in gold or is just a tarnished variant.
Packaging: This is mostly the same as the usual Spider-Man waves with the red accents though the logo features the NWH setup and various text underneath explaining this version of Spidey.
The side panels feature the same image of Peter rocking his gold accent stealth suit. On the back we get a very generic write-up explaining the costume. I wish they’d just said “it’s a way to sell more toys” as that sounds more accurate.
Of course, with the window packaging, we can make out the figure and all of the accessories. I’m thrilled that’s returning.
Likeness: I don’t have a slew of MCU Spider-Man figures so this was a fun addition to the collection. The sculpted web lines are a nice touch and essential for creating the movie accurate depth perspective of the gold webbing.
That’s true for the detailed head sculpt as well with just the right amount of space for the eyes as well.
He’s got just the right amount of mass so he looks like a smaller high school student with a slim and slender build. Very true to the original comics.

Paint: Black and Gold make for an eye-catching combination largely if the colors are swapped. Hasbro put in the work to create a vibrant gold that manages to not get lost against the black.
There’s no fuzziness around the eyes and the red around the gauntlets and fingers helps to break up the black further.
The costume should have some minor red lining, but that’s being extremely picky.
Scale: Spider-Man is sized just right even if in this costume’s portion of the film he’s not really around anyone else for an appropriate scale gauge.
Articulation: Even if he’s in his black and gold togs, Spider-Man needs to be super poseable. I had no problem posing this figure although I wish his neck joint had a bit more range for up and down movement.
- neck
- ball-jointed shoulders
- butterfly shoulders
- bicep
- elbow (double-jointed)
- wrist
- wrist hinge
- torso
- waist

Accessories: Spider-Man Black and Gold Suit doesn’t get much by way of extras. He has swappable web shooting hands.
That’s not a lot as far as useful accessories go. Hasbro really should have tossed in some sort of energy swirl effect piece since Peter’s gauntlet had the magical effect in the film.
Another cool accessory the figure could have used is a duct tape harness with the cell phone so Ned and MJ could watch Peter track Electro. It just felt like Hasbro could have done more accessory wise.
Spidey Black and Gold does have another “accessory” with the left leg of the Build-A-Figure Armadillo.
Worth it? Spider-Man’s Black and Gold suit is largely movie accurate though lacking in some accessories to fully make it worth the $22.99 price point.
Rating: 8.5 out of 10
The figure itself is really strong, but Hasbro really should be putting more effort into movie figure accessories even if it’s just a swappable alternate unmasked head sculpt.
Where to get it? Black and Gold Suit Spidey is hard to track down now. Entertainment Earth had him in stock, but for now he’s sold out. You can still get the No Way Home set featuring the three Peters, MJ, Matt Murdock and Sandman from EE with free shipping.
