Star Wars The Black Series The Book of Boba Fett – Boba Fett (Throne Room) review

Boba Fett’s arrival in The Mandalorian was a shocker. His return would get dramatically overshadowed later on of course, but I was still hyped.

One of the saga’s more mysterious characters got the big spotlight in The Book of Boba Fett, the inspiration for this latest Black Series figure.

Packaging: The Book of Boba Fett features an olive-green color scheme. This figure is considered a deluxe so it’s got a wider window box. The mural image on the side naturally is larger with more space showing off Boba in all his glory.

The bio isn’t as great a match as we regularly see with these write-ups — it’s written broadly and not as specific as the norm.

With the wide window we get to see all the accessories clearly, which remains a perk of the open plastic window setup.

Likeness: I really like how Boba ver.3 turned out. He’d traded out the tighter jumpsuit for the robes he received from the Tusken Raiders.

Boba’s armor has definitely seen better days with numerous blaster marks and buckshot looking marks. The gauntlets look to match the texture of the belt and pouches. And I dig the turtleneck.

The head sculpt is thisclose to being perfect. I love the stern expression and all the scars along his face. His head is a bit too round though.

I think Boba uses the same legs as Ahsoka with new knee pads. The shoulder pads are updated from previous figures.

Paint: Hasbro has claimed the deluxe figures require more intricate paintwork. Outside of the great work in the head sculpt with the ashen patches and the scars, there’s not the top-level paintwork I was expecting.

There’s some solid work here and a few scrapes on the armor, but it could use more weathering. I didn’t have any issues with sloppy paint.

Tampo work like the Mandalorian patch and smaller details like the missile tip and two-tone gloves are mostly solid though the patch is slightly misaligned.

Scale: Hasbro has few issues with scale specifically with various versions of the same character. Boba lines up properly with other Fett figures and scaled just right next to Fennec or Mando. I appreciate that scale hasn’t been a major issue with the line.

Articulation: I’ve been spoiled by these modern Black Series figures. The articulation has become much improved over the last few years. They might lack double-jointed elbows and knees, but the range is really solid enough for Boba Fett.

By The Book of Boba Fett, Boba isn’t doing kick flips and dives. He’s more of a methodical character, taking his time for damaging strikes so the poses he can hit thanks to the floating torso are just fine. I do wish he had more give with his butterfly shoulders, however.

The skirt piece in the front does not hinder his movements at all thankfully.

  • ball-jointed shoulders

  • wrist hinge
  • torso (with swivel)
  • hips
  • thighs
  • knees

Accessories: Boba comes with a decent allotment of accessories though there’s nothing extra here for a deluxe presentation.

Boba has his signature EE carbine rifle — packed with the elaborate detail I’ve come to expect from the Black Series.

Additionally, he’s got what I think is the Sedgley Signal Pistol Mk5. Like the carbine rifle there’s great detail and some precise paint work. It fits smoothly in the holster.

Naturally, he’s got his jetpack. It looks a bit too pristine compared to the rest of the armor.

I appreciate the removable helmet of course since Boba frequently removed his helmet in the BOBF.

Unlike the jet pack this features some solid wear and tear including what looks like a blaster shot getting too close to giving Boba more than a headache. It’s scaled properly without looking massively oversized.

Worth it? Hasbro was feeling real optimistic initially charging $31.99 for this “deluxe” figure. That’s absurd for what’s really just a standard figure. But patience paid off big time with Boba as Target eventually reduced him to under $12 during Christmas sales.

I just don’t see the added value for that $32 price point but the closer you get to the standard $25 is much better.

Rating: 9 out of 10

I really came away impressed with this figure at the price I snagged for him. There’s not enough to call or price him as a deluxe figure. He’s a very good regular figure but for $12? Boba Fett is one of the best value Black Series figures I’ve grabbed in a long time.
