Star Wars The Black Series Bodhi Rook review

Bodhi Rook was the final member of the core Rogue One crew to get a Black Series figure. That actually worked out for collectors since there was no need to double dip and get this updated superior version unlike the rest of the gang.

Like the rest of the gang, Bodhi seemed to have an interesting back story, but not everyone can get a spin-off series like Cassian Andor so I’ll just have to be content with his far too brief moment in the Star Wars universe in one of the saga’s best installments.

Let’s see how Bodhi’s Black Series debut turned out or if I need to sic the worms back on him.

Packaging: I appreciate that the Black Series uses a different accent color for each film/series. Rogue One has a duck egg blue shade. Bodhi is No. 6 in the Rogue One lineup.

As always, the mural image looks very cool and features Bodhi ready to handle everything on the engineering front.

Bodhi’s bio takes a spoiler-free approach while teasing his ultimate importance to the Rogue One Squadron.

Likeness: The original Rogue One figures had great body sculpts but the head sculpts looked like Selfie Series likenesses.

Since Bodhi got delayed, he was spared a softer badly needed original figure. Good things come etc. etc.

This is a terrific figure of Bodhi and the head sculpt definitely captures actor Riz Ahmed’s likeness. The Rogue One updated figures were where it felt like the Black Series line started getting on track with even stronger likenesses than MAFEX.

His hair is tied in two smaller ponytails on each side and a larger one down the middle. And the translucent goggles are tremendous — they’re properly scaled and match up well with reference pics as well.

Bodhi’s Imperial flight suit isn’t as flashy as some of his compatriots’ attire, but it nails the look of the source material perfectly. The long thing cylinders on his left arm pocket and the Imperial rank are very well detailed.

To break up the bland grey suit a bit, Bodhi adds a little spice with a big, hefty vest. It’s pretty well detailed with pouches, buckles and tools he needs to rig up makeshift repairs as needed.

Paint: Bodhi’s paintjob is stellar from the right hue for his skin tone that’s not too dark or too light. The flight suit is a basic grey and while it could have used a wash it isn’t terribly dull.

Factor in the smaller detail elements like the cylinders and rank, which do have paint details this was a solid trade off.

Scale: Bodhi matches up just right in the Rogue One scale. He’s taller than Jyn and is about the same height as Chirrut while looking up at Baze and Cassian and clearly K-2S0.

He’ll also look up to Saw Gererra, which seems like a good time to put in a request for more of his crew and not just based on their role here but in Andor as well.

Articulation: Bodhi wasn’t getting into major firefights like the rest of the gang. He had a more complicated mission, which saw him running, but he wasn’t gunning or blasting away Stormtroopers.

He can hit the standard poses of any Black Series figures in case you want to give the guys one more mission before they try and retrieve the Death Star plans. Ironically since he was released later than his fellow Rogue One characters, his figure sports the updated, superior articulation with better range in the elbows and knees with a slight butterfly shoulder joint.

Accessories: Bodhi comes with his massive cable reel backpack.

The sculpting on it is pretty impressive with texturing and detailed mechanics.

You can even unspool the reel and have Bodhi hold the communication port to reenact his dramatic final moments.

He’s also got a gun, but I’m pretty sure Bodhi didn’t fire anything throughout the movie. It’s nice to get an extra Rebel blaster though.

Worth it? I waited this series out in hopes of getting them for clearance/deep discount. I was able to get Bodhi for $13. You can’t beat that price for Black Series figures especially one this well done.

It definitely beats the standard $22.99 this wave was going for at the time. He’s available now for $11.98 at Amazon.

Bodhi is an excellent figure with great articulation, outstanding sculpted detail and worthwhile accessories. He’s been the standout of the Rogue One characters for me.
