DC Comics reviews 11/28/23 – Titans: Beast World #1, Green Arrow #6
Titans Beast World #1
DC has an event problem where too many play out over the course of a year. In some cases, they overlap. One major asset for Beast World is Tom Taylor is writing it. With DCeased and Dark Knights of Steel in his resume, shows he doesn’t have problems making an impactful event that can resonate with readers.
The Titans take the forefront for this event as they lead Earth’s heroes in a battle against a new conqueror. It’s kinda cool seeing heroes like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern taking cues from Nightwing and company. The Titans’ plan is solid and through an immense effort from Beast Boy and Cyborg are able to save the day…until a new villain arrives and messes everything up.
DC is building towards a major fallout with the heroes and Amanda Waller. It’s refreshing to see an event actually get the time to be developed to be meaningful and this is another step on that path.
Ivan Reis’ art has few peers and he’s at his best tackling pages crammed with heroes. Infinite Crisis was 2005 and Reis’ skills are arguably shaper now than back then. With Danny Miki on inks and Brad Anderson’s colors, the art team is superb giving Beast World a true epic, important feel.
DC events have started out strong and fizzled too often lately. but with this creative team in place there’s reason to believe this will be much more impactful than the last round of mega-events.
