Power Rangers Lightning Collection Mighty Morphin Pudgy Pig review
I’m not a hardcore Power Rangers fan by any means. I don’t remember most of the creations Rita Repulsa sent against the Power Rangers, but Pudgy Pig is one of those unforgettable wild characters that completely warrants a figure from Hasbro’s Lightning Collection line.
And as long as Hasbro keeps cranking out these monsters for the MMPRs I’m going to keep buying them, but let’s see if this Pig would be better served as bacon instead of featured on my shelf.
Packaging: This is the same basic setup as the standard figures, but the deluxe presentation looks better with the wide window and larger character portrait that goes along the front and side.
It’s too bad Hasbro just never seemed to put much thought or effort into the back package, which just features a rendered action shot of the figure with his accessories. If nothing else just adding a bio with a small write up would be useful.
Likeness: Pudgy Pig has a wild design. He’s basically a big standing round pig rocking a Spartan helmet. In so many ways he looks like the most bizarre mascot ever.
Pudgy is a ridiculous looking character made into an amazing figure by how accurate he is to the source material. He’s sooo round with his elongated arms and legs with hooves at the end of both.
His expression is appropriately menacing and comical. It’s hard to take this guy completely seriously, but the figure’s deep sunken eyes and furrowed brow makes him look enough like a threat for the Rangers.
He’s also got terrific, wrinkled skin throughout, not just in some sections, which is nice consistency.
Pudgy’s giant spartan helmet is two pieces with the feathered section plugging into the cap top. I love the drooping floppy sticking out of the helmet and his coiled tiny tail.
Scale: On the show, Pudgy Pig was slightly taller than a regular character and that translated fairly well to his figure.

Paint: Pudgy Pig is mostly cast in pink and that’s fine for a character that’s a pig. He doesn’t need a darker pink wash as the sculpt actually snags a bunch of light to show off the detail.
There are elements that do have solid paint applications like the hooves, his mouth and the jet black eyes. This is the rare case where the helmet is cast in a deep enough grey that it also is fine with the base pearlescent dark grey and not need a wash.
Articulation: Pudgy is a huge round head body so he’s a poster child of being top heavy.
He does have a surprising amount of range of movement though you’ll need to be mindful when rocking him back in deeper stances.
Pudgy Pig has:
- Mouth
- Shoulders (butterfly)
- Elbow
- Thigh
- Knee
- Ankle
Accessories: Pudgy Pig comes with the most natural accessories for a pig — a set of silverware — or more specifically a dull grey fork and knife. The dude leans in hard on his gimmick, doesn’t he?
They slot in his hands just fine and as usual, stay tight without falling down or being a loose fit. I wish they had the same sharp silver paint job as the render on the back.
Additionally, he’s got a repurposed energy effect that’s cast in a translucent yellow green not dark green like the package suggests.
Finally, he’s got a set of swappable fists, which is a nice addition for mixing up the display option.
Worth it? The Lightning Collection deluxe figures typically are $31.99, but he hit clearance so I was able to get Pudgy for just a little under $20 and that’s never a bad deal.
Hasbro had a super deluxe version that came packaged in a lunch box and had three additional food accessories that’s $57.99. Not so surprisingly, you can still get that version at Hasbropulse.com. You’re not missing much skipping that version.
You can get him from Amazon now for $17.99.
Rating: 9.7 out of 10
Pudgy Pig is another fun monster to tangle with the Power Rangers. He’s a great addition to the line especially at the less than deluxe price point.
Where to get it? I got Pudgy from Target, but online is the main route now. Grab him from Amazon for the best price although you can also get him from Entertainment Earth.
