Image Comics reviews 12/20/23 – G.I. Joe A Real American Hero #302, Killadelphia #32
Killadelphia #32
Killadelphia’s latest arc has been wild with the unexpected arrival of Spawn to help battle Lucifer and turn the tide against the demons. That covers the action of this installment, but Rodney Barnes pens a far more horrific subplot playing out involving rapper Blake Edwards.
Unfortunately for everyone he encounters on the war-torn Philadelphia streets, this fan encounter won’t end with a selfie or autograph since Blake has become a vampire.
Blake couldn’t care less about Spawn or Anasi battling Corson and Lucifer. He’s got another agenda namely the studio exec who promised him the lavish lifestyle he always dreamed about. Along the way, Blake does some pretty awful things on this path of revenge.
Artists Jason Shawn Alexander and German Erramouspe make this revenge tour gruesome and haunting with some mesmerizing imagery. The Spawn battle is far more free flowing with the vampire-infected Spawn going even more dramatic in combat than usual. Colorist Lee Loughridge does an excellent job of maintaining the flow and not letting the art get awash in reds and deep blacks.
Barnes hasn’t forgotten some fascinating cast members with the return of Toussaint, who is brought back to the fold to stop the darkness again. This time, he’s got a new ally and his arrival in the series will shock many Image fans.
This title keeps delivering one surprise after another and making good one these ideas.
