DC Comics reviews 12/26/23 – Green Arrow #7, Titans Beast World #3

Green Arrow #7

DC editorial’s best move of the back end of 2023? Announcing that the Green Arrow maxi-series is now an ongoing series. There’s no way anyone at DC could see the quality stories being produced each month, check out the fan reaction and thinking limiting it to 12 issues was a good idea.

Writer Joshua Williamson wrapped the Ollie lost in the Multiverse arc and has him catch up with his old crew – the Justice League. This was a sensible decision from a character who plays at being a loner malcontent but is happy to be around his family and friends. Williamson has an excellent handle on the characters’ voices and the lore associated with the Justice League, particularly Ollie’s reaction to the Titans filling the gap in their absence.

Carmine Di Giandomenico and Trevor Hairsine pair up and share art duties. Di Giandomenico’s style us very much anime-influenced while Hairsine is more of a gritty, realistic focus. The two artists on one book approach only works when their styles mesh. Otherwise, DC needs to adopt a one artist per issue policy for a standard size title.

Romulo Fajardo’s coloring is stellar with good choices to help distinguish one location Ollie visits over another.  Troy Peteri’s lettering is nicely laid out with the right emphasis on certain words.

Like his former sidekick, Ollie understands the real threat of Amanda Waller, which sets up the focus of the title for at least half a year. It’s a good time to be a Green Arrow fan again even before the return of a moderately recent GA villain.
