Batman Superman World’s Finest 2024 Annual #1

This wasn’t the traditional Batman Superman story and had little connection to the Kingdom Come arc currently playing out, but this was an entertaining anthology story done in the style of World’s Finest.

Regular writer Mark Waid teams with Cullen Bunn for a funny, but ultimately tragic story set in The Fifth Dimension. The artwork from Edwin Galmon, with stellar colors by Lee Loughridge, fits the tone of the story nicely as well.

This is the only story with a direct link to the ongoing story, which gets further developed in issue #25. The other stories feature Metamorpho, Bumblebee and Challengers of the Unknown from creators including Dennis Culver, Travis Mercer, Jordie Bellaire, Stephanie Williams, Rosi Kampe, Jorge Fornes and Christopher Cantwell.

In a rarity for an anthology all of the stories are engaging enough to validate their inclusion. World’s Finest fans don’t get the Superman/Batman main story they might have anticipated, but this was a worthwhile read this week.
