McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse Red Tornado review – Gold Label
Red Tornado is an essential character for my McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse Justice League collection. With rising prices, I might be limiting my collection to the JLA and their main rivals. From the first shot, this Gold Label release looked like it was going to be one of my favorite offerings from the line in 2024. Let’s see if I’m blown away by McFarlane’s take on Reddy or if my hopes will be grounded.
Packaging: New year, same old packaging from McFarlane. The personalization is minimal and in keeping with the Gold Label releases, there’s just a big comic book image on the back.
This features Reddy from Justice League: The Tornado’s Path. That was a fun run of the team cut short by another annoying crossover, but the lineup was a solid one.
Likeness: For the most part, this is a fairly classic version of Red Tornado albeit the 2000s era version. The big tells are the lack of the flared gloves.
Any long-term line will have a certain amount of reuse. Red Tornado is essentially the Collector’s Edition Alan Scott Green Lantern with a new head and left hand sculpt. That explains the belt buckle, which should be an unbroken strip across Reddy’s waist, and the buccaneer style boots. In this attire, Red Tornado doesn’t wear boots.
In the grand scheme, these accuracy issues aren’t a major deal even though McFarlane Toys has the parts on hand to at least swap out the boot cuffs.
Reddy’s head sculpt is terrific giving him a stoic expression. Is it a little too evil-skewing? Possibly, but I suppose he doesn’t look like a villain.
Scale: Red Tornado should be right around the same height as Superman, Batman, etc. He’s an android so he doesn’t need to be too short.

Paint: McFarlane opted to go with a deeper shade of red and a darker gold. It doesn’t make him pop as much as a bright yellow. The gold looks sharp and was applied without noticeable sloppiness.
I don’t love the black around Reddy’s eyes as it makes it look like he has some energy bursts emanating from them.
Articulation: Red Tornado is a gesturing distance fighter. Ideally, he should be able to hit all the necessary aiming/directing needed to toss around a few tornado bursts, which makes for some fun poses.
And in all other ways, he’s your basic McFarlane Multiverse figure with a good amount of articulation with a cape that doesn’t get in the way of striking dynamic poses.

Accessories: McFarlane Toys normally doesn’t pack much by way of accessories into the Multiverse line.
Red Tornado actually gets more than the average McF figure.
He’s got wide open hands, which is definitively useful for a character who gestures to channel his powers.
Another useful accessory is the mini-tornado included with the Cyclone figure (paid ad). Thankfully, it’s painted translucent red to reflect the spinning effect from the comics.
Finally, he’s got the small black stand to help him balance.
Worth it? McFarlane Toys is starting to move away from the $20 price tag, which is ironic seeing as Red Tornado has more accessories than some of the $30 and $40 offerings. He’s actually a pretty good deal for everything included.

I probably would like a brighter yellow and more of the classic outfit elements, but this is a very solid Red Tornado for the DC Multiverse line.
