Star Wars The Black Series Krrsantan review

Krrsantan gets his second Star Wars Black Series figure. The first one is better left barely mentioned since it was so terrible. This one is based off Black Krrsantan’s appearance in The Book of Boba Fett. He was a fun standout in the series. It was great to see another comic book character make his live-action debut in BOBF.

This was a figure I was highly anticipating before I saw the wild original price tag. Once it dropped to a more reasonable level this was an easy pickup for me.

Let’s see if taking my time to claim this bounty hunter was worth it or if he still wasn’t worth the price I paid.

Packaging: Hasbro’s SW Black Series team has been a bit…generous with the deluxe designations with The Book of Boba Fett subset. Krrsantan is the third of the first four figures to be a deluxe release.

Unlike Boba Fett, his window is closed so you just have to hope for the best. The package features a solid image of Krrsantan toting his big blaster on the front and the mural image on the left side with the olive-green color scheme.

His bio explains his backstory well enough besides his connection to Boba Fett.

Likeness: Hasbro’s Black Krrsantan figure was embarrassing, failing to do the pit fighter Wookie any justice. This version definitely captures more of the intimidation factor of a Wookie folks wouldn’t want to see coming after them to collect a bounty.

It starts with the head sculpt. This is much more influenced by the Book of Boba Fett take so there’s no scar over his left eye from Obi-Wan’s lightsaber. Maybe he spent some time healing it in a bacta tank?

His deep-set eyes really sell his intensity and the open mouth suggests he’s about to go roaring before attacking his target.

The three hair braids in the beard and the back of his head flow naturally hanging at different lengths instead of having a uniform look.

Krrsantan’s gold shoulder pads and bandolier center connection piece have intricate detail.

Ditto for the belt, which also has a pouch and what seems to be a Wookie scalp on the right side.

Paint: Krrsantan is mostly black, but Hasbro did a much better job incorporating the grey/white portions of his fur. The gold of the knuckle dusters is cleanly applied.

I really dig the work on his gold harness/bandolier as the gold portions have some tarnish and blacker paint in different areas to indicate they’ve been work for a long time.

The belt pouch also got a wash as well.

Scale: Keeping in mind this is Krrsantan and not the comic specific Black Krrsantan, it’s wise to approach this figure’s height from a proper perspective. BK was a towering overly exaggerated mountain of a Wookie. Krrsantan actor Carey Jones is 6’7″. In movie/TV scale that would put Krrsantan right at eye level with the 6’7″ Darth Vader.

Hasbro gave Krrsantan two to three additional inches so he’s taller than a standard BS Vader. While he’s wider and clearly thicker than any other Chewbacca figure, Krrsantan still seems like he could be wider and broader in the shoulders.

He’s not slight next to Vader, but a little extra girth wouldn’t have hurt.

Articulation: Krrsantan is not a backflipping, cartwheel, leaping character. He’s more of a lumbering tank with some unexpected lunging potential.

As such, he probably doesn’t need a ton of articulation. He’s a character that would benefit from a bit more range in his elbow joint even if it wasn’t double-jointed.

He can’t hit a very convincing arms crossed pose as a result.

He’s able to hit deep crouching poses and can manage some wide sweeping strikes thanks to his butterfly shoulders.

Krrsantan has:

  • neck
  • ball-jointed shoulders (butterfly joints)
  • elbow (with swivel)
  • wrist
  • wrist hinge
  • torso (with swivel)
  • hips
  • thighs
  • knees
  • ankles

Accessories: Krrsantan doesn’t come with a ton of options for accessories. He comes with his mega blaster from the show.

It’s elaborately done as the norm for this line. It’s cast in a gunmetal shade with a grey barrel with a blue tip along with some red buttons in the main body. You can position it in both hands, but not as convincingly as I would like.

The overpriced Vintage Collection figure had some electrical effects that wrap around his knuckle dusters. That would have been a nice addition for this figure.

Worth it? Hasbro assumed slapping Boba Fett on the label would be enough to charge $31.99 for this “deluxe” figure. That’s preposterous for a figure that didn’t require any intricate paint job or some elaborate, intricate sculpting.

I always intended to wait him out for a sale and finally bit when he was $12 during Christmas sales.

Rating: 8.5 out of 10

The sculpt is great but that comes with the side effect of hindering some of the elbow and shoulder articulation. While he’s got good size, Krrsantan could still be just a little bit wider and taller. That sounds like a lot, but this was a very good addition to the Book of Boba Fett crew.

Where to get it? Krrsantan still shows up at Target, but he’s starting to get scarce. You can always get Krrsantan at Amazon or Entertainment Earth.
