DC Comics reviews 2/27/24 – Green Arrow #9, Detective Comics #1082

Green Arrow #9

Green Arrow has been a great read largely because it’s been able to exist outside of the big events playing out around the rest of the DCU. That peaceful existence is seriously threatened this issue culminating in a cliffhanger most DC fans likely hoped would be forgotten.

Writer Joshua Williamson continues the fallout from Titans Beast World this issue.

Amanda Waller, Peacemaker, Director Bones and company have taken over the Hall of Justice. Williamson does thankless work trying to explain how a Justice League with Batman as a member would ever let their vacant headquarters be in a position to be taking over by a hostile threat. Was it that hard to have Dr. Fate or Zatanna teleport it to another dimension?

After a little tangle with her agents, Arrow gets the confrontation he wanted with The Wall. Instead, Waller has a deal for Oliver. Work for her for and she’ll reunite his family. The catch is what Waller wants Arrow to get. Secrets pertaining to the last storyline a DC writer, even one as talented as Williamson, should attempt to revisit.

The artwork from Sean Izaakse is amazing as always. Izaakse’s linework is so clean with easy-to-follow action sequences and excellent work conveying emotions. Green Arrow #9 continues the series’ stellar art streak. Colorist Romulo Fajardo Jr. delivers crisp, bold color choices that highlight the artwork nicely.

DC’s all roads lead to a collision course with Amanda Waller direction seems risky, but nearly as much as this cliffhanger’s proposed direction. Hopefully, Williamson can handle it in a way that the original event spectacularly failed to accomplish.
