Masters of the Universe Masterverse Revelation Fisto review

Fisto got done dirty in Masters of the Universe: Revelation. I’ll spare details for those who still haven’t seen it, but I wasn’t happy with how he was treated. Fortunately, my interest in the Revelation figure line has little to do with the character portrayals on the show. This is all about getting a Fisto with better articulation than the norm.

I’ve always thought Fisto was one of the cooler Masters because of his subtle gimmick. And he was portrayed as nearly as powerful as He-Man in addition to having a rival with a similar gimmick.

Let’s see if this take on Fisto has me pounding the table or raising my fist in protest with how the figure of my dude was handled.

Packaging:  The Masterverse Revelation line really stands out on the shelves thanks to the wide window showcasing the figure and accessories along with the unique blue color scheme.

The right side drawing features Fisto in a heroic pose while the back shows him in action beating down some of Skeletor’s minions. His bio is terrific as has been the theme for this line. I wish all companies put this much effort into their figure write-ups.

Likeness: Fisto was one of those characters in the mythos that really didn’t need tweaking design wise. His biggest change in Revelation was a faux-hawk. I love Fisto’s head sculpt, which shows the improvement on that front from earlier waves.

He’s got some serious intensity and looks like he’s ready to defend the palace and Castle Greyskull with his last breath. His hair sculpt all around is fantastic with a nice flow of the mustache and beard.

Fisto shares his underlined base body with the He-Man buck with some additional elements namely his chest armor and gigantic fist. The common elements are the ornate belt, left arm bracelet and furry loincloth and boots.

The chest armor is sculpted and helps give Fisto a thicker, broader appearance. If this guy is walking around with a gigantic fist, he can’t be a shrimp so this makes him look even more solid and ready to take a beating from Skeletor’s crew and their weaponry.

Of course, the fist is the main attraction and Mattel’s sculptors did a nice job with it. The size isn’t too ridiculous and there’s some nice simple detailing on it, like the rivets around the wrist and plating around the knuckles.

Paint: Fisto has a cool color scheme of purple and silver. Mattel did an excellent job with the silver elements using a metallic paint that gives it a terrific pearlescent sheen.

The paint on the chest armor is rough at spots with some fuzziness around the neckline and a little caked on glop in the second left ribbed area.

His mustache is missing a smidge of paint that’s noticeable close up, but not from a distance.

Scale: The Revelation line is a 7″ scale so they’re taller than the Masters of the Universe Classics figures. Fisto clocks in right around the same height as Man-at-Arms, but he’s looking up to He-Man.

MORE:

Articulation: Fisto sports 30 points of articulation. The key for him is landing metal fist haymakers so butterfly shoulders would have been a great addition for him.

The Masterverse line has consistent articulation. It’s not as great as some competitors, but it’s better than other MOTU lines for sure. He’s got the usual articulation points, but they’re restricted due to the lack of proper clearance range like the double-jointed elbows.

His chest armor does hinder some of his torso movement.

Accessories: Fisto is one of those characters who’s already gimmicked up with his major weapon, but just to be on the safe side he comes with a massive sword.

I love the detail on this with the lining around the three jewels. While it lacks a wash, the metallic paint and transition from purple to silver makes it look classy and sharper than a toy sword.

Fisto also has two additional left-hand options — an open hand and a clutching hand for the sword. These swap out without any problem.

Worth it?  I got Fisto for $20, a perfectly solid deal for a seven-inch scale figure with a decent number of accessories.

Rating: 9.5 out of 10

While Revelation did him dirty, Mattel definitely did not making for another welcome addition to the Masterverse line.

Where to get it?  I got Fisto at Target. He’s easy to grab on Amazon. He’s currently $15.25 there, which is an even better value.
